A French university laboratory with R&D activities in textile is willing to capitalize its patent on the manufacturing process of an innovative composite material for ballistic protection. The material is composed of a textile splicing and a polymer matrix.
The composite material obtained has several advantages regarding the manufacturing (cheaper & easier comparing to others similar materials, thanks to basis weight lower than composites currently on the market with similar performances), and performances for resistance due to both low & high energy impacts.

The innovation includes a textile splicing and a polymer matrix:
- Production of textile splicing through 2.5 woven fabric (intermediary woven splicing between 2D fibers are towards two direction and 3D towards three directions) having advantages of both splicing.
- Follow-up of a thermal treatment with controlled pressure & temperature to the warp interlock.

Innovative Aspects:
The composite materials obtained through that production process are particularly resistant to delamination, which is advantageous in case of multi-impact shooting (Therefore, the resistances against the delamination, to a violent impact, are enhanced).
The layers of the fibrous splicing are delaminated step by step, offering a high resistance against delaminination, while enabling a controlled delamining of the composite material.

The weaving a two distinct string groups enables an easy adjustment of quantity & disposal of second strings within the 2.5D woven fabric, in order to optimize both weight of polymer matrix & impregnation within the first strings' core.
