Biologic inductor of enzyme laccase (10 ES 27F4 3IIK)
A Spanish Research Centre has discovered a new form of increasing the production of enzyme laccase by Coriolopsis fungus using a biological inductor.
Experiments carried with Coriolopsis show an increase in the laccase fungus activity when Penicillium fungus is added to the culture. This increase is 3000 times compared with the basal culture. They are looking for Licensing Agreement.

Laccase are oxidase enzymes found in many plants, fungi, and microorganisms. These enzymes play a role in the oxidation of aromatic compounds and lignin. Lacasses are some of the few oxidoreductases commercialized as industrials catalyst, for example in textile, food and nanotechnology industries, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons degradation and bioremediation.

Lacasses show low specificity and a high enzymatic activity is required for their industrial application. Various chemical substances can act as inductors for increasing the laccase activity, for example copper or phenolic inductors, but these elements increase production costs and can have toxic effects.

Concerned about this, a Spanish Research Centre has discovered a new form of increasing the production of enzyme laccase by Coriolopsis fungus using a biological inductor. Specifically, experiments carried with Coriolopsis have shown an increase in the laccase fungus activity when Penicillium fungus is added to the culture. This increase is 3000 times compared with the basal culture.

Innovative Aspects:
- It is a simple and effective method of increasing laccase activity.

- This new method diminishes production costs of laccase.

- The final product obtained is not toxic because this method does not use chemical inductors.

- The laccase obtained with this method can be purified in a simple way using any of the methods in the state of the art.
