Sustainable Materials for Children's and Infants' Consumer Products (10 US 87GA 3IIL)
A large US company is looking for partners developing or producing resins, polymers and fibers that are more sustainably produced. Of interest are both materials that can be sampled immediately, as well as responses that describe development or commercial activities to create one or more of the target materials in a way that can enable a sustainability claim. They are interested in product development agreement, product acquisition agreement, license, manufacturing or supply agreement.
Country: United States
Type: REQUEST

The company uses a number of materials to produce its consumer products for infants and children. Sustainability is one of their most important corporate initiatives. In order to support this mission, new materials and alternatives to the materials listed above are needed.
However, one of the challenges is to balance the various metrics against one another in defining a "sustainable" material (i.e., a 100% recycled material but requires 50% more water and a higher carbon footprint would not be considered sustainable). Therefore, candidate materials will be scored against one another across all the variables defined above.
Possible approaches:
- Ready to sample materials of primary interest
- Materials under development that offer important improvements in sustainability
- Research proposals are not of interest.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
Of interest are alternatives to the following materials. The alternate materials should have the same physical properties as current materials. Respondents with alternatives for one or more are encouraged to respond.
Resins and Polymers
- ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadience Styrene)
- HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)
- Acetal
- Polypropylene
- EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)
- LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene)
- PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
- Nylon
Fibers
- Polyester
- Nylon
In this context, "sustainable" means measurable improvements in:
- Using additional recycled raw material
- Better recyclability
- Reduced carbon footprint
- Using less water in production
- Use of alternative chemicals with lower VOC content for production
- Creation of less waste/by-products in production.
As most of the company's products are produced in Asia, supply in proximity to production is an important consideration for sustainability.
Degree of development:
Patents/Rights:
Requested Cooperation: License Agreement Responses from companies (large or small, startups, etc.), hospital or academic researchers, contract research institutes, pharmacologists, nutritionists, medicinal chemists, drug formulators, biochemists, physiologists, alternative or traditional medicine providers, etc., from around the world are all welcome.
