Urban waste disposal system with underground container (09 IT 56Z7 3E1D)
An Italian enterprise developed an innovative integrated urban waste disposal system with underground removable containers offering several advantages over traditional sulutions. European companies and/or municipalities are seeked for joint ventures and commercial agreements.

image 1 The waste system comprises external drop-off bins accessible to the citizens, designed with a stylish look, unobtrusive, and suitable to be placed even in small historical urban areas, where traditional waste systems are difficult to be placed and could degrade the overall look.
The underground storage containers can collect a large volume of waste while not sacrificing any external surface, still usable for other activities (pedestrians, road, sqares, etc.). Each unit includes a roll-off type compactor with 1:4 compressing ratio and a 10000 litres storage volume.

Additional functions include: remote monitoring, weighting of the waste introduced, magnetic cards for controlling and billing the amounts inserted by each familiy or commercial activity.
The containers are periodically emptied or substituted with empty ones by means of highly automated operations. A "ground door" allows to inspect, release, lift-up, empty and change the containers. After this manoeuvre the pavement is closed again to its normal state.

Main Advantages
The proposed system, in virtue of preliminary testing in some Italian tows, showed to be cost-effective with overall savings over traditional waste disposal and collection systems.
The present solution allows sorted-waste collection, by the use of multiple containers.
Special attention has been paid to environmental and health issues, greatly reducing the contamination normally associated with other storage systems.
The waste collection islands are designed to be easy to operate and safe, particularly for children, elderly people, disabled.
The external bins have been conceived to be sturdy, fire-resistant, able to withstand vandalisms, etc.
The drop-off inlets and pavement can also be customised for best match with the surroundings.
