New method for the synthesis of compounds as potential treatment of tumor diseases (08 DE 0855 0IQP)
A German university offers a new method for the synthesis of organometallic platinum(II) complexes with orthoplatinated primary amines as ligands.
The compounds obtained represent potential candidates for the medical treatment of tumor diseases, e.g. cancer. In comparison to other methods the invention shows very good results in cell tests.
Companies from the field of biotechnology or pharma are sought for licensingof the method, purchase of the patent or for joint-venture research projects

image 1 A German university offers a new method for the synthesis of organometallic platinum(II) complexes with orthoplatinated primary amines as ligands.

The invention pertains to a new method for the synthesis of organometallic platinum(II) complexes with orthoplatinated primary amines as ligands. The procedure developed in this context provides the first high-yield and general access to the title compounds.

The compounds, which are obtained according to this new synthetic route, represent potential candidates for the medical treatment of tumor diseases. Results on cell cultures are available and indicate pronounced cytotoxicity in pharmacologically relevant concentrations.

Attempts to enlarge the range of substrates are under way. Additional pharmacological tests on cell cultures will be undertaken.

Innovative Aspects:
- Very good results in cell tests
- High yields
- Compounds rarely used in pharmacological applications
- Broad range of substrates
- Easy access to enantiomerically pure compounds
- Structural studies
