The invention pertains to a new group of metallocenophanes as potent cytostatic drugs. The ferrocenophanes were designed by reductive coupling of special carbonyl groups with iron sandwich compounds.

The new compounds, which are obtained according to a new synthetic route, represent potential candidates for the medical treatment of tumor diseases.

Results on cell cultures (MTT Test= Diphenyltetrazoliumbromide) indicate pronounced cytotoxicity in pharmacologically relevant concentrations against L929 mouse fibroblasts and MCF-7 (=Human breast adenocarcinoma cell line) breast cancer cells.
