A German medical device and research company has developed a surgical assistance system, designed for minimal invasive surgery (MIS) applications. It is CE certified and developed compliant to ISO 14971 and ISO 13485 regarding risk management analysis and documentation with a risk analysis software tool.
The device is a non-robotic surgical assistance system, developed for endoscopic surgery in the field of MIS. It has an external switch, to release and fix the position of the arm, with only the force of a fingertip. This underlines the capabilities of the system as the fastest and easiest surgical assistance system for MIS applications in the world (about 20-times faster than all other available systems, 20ms fixation and releasing time for all joints).
The device enables a very fast repositioning of any endoscope and is very easy to use as it is manoeuvrable with only one hand. Due to the self-stabilization of the system steady and calm endoscope camera images for the surgeon are realised.
It was developed for laparoscopy and visceral surgery, but is also suitable for all other endoscopic surgery's performed in the field of MIS. Reaching the ear, nose, and throat interventions, the system can hold a Rudert speculum. Interfaces for endoscopes from 4mm to 10mm are available.
The hospital or surgeon who uses the surgical assistance system saves a significant amount of time and therefore money. There is no need for communication regarding the positioning of the Endoscopic camera anymore, because the surgeon can move and fix the camera by himself with nearly no force.
Precious operation room time is saved due to the fact that the surgeon does not need to adapt to a trembling picture any more. The maximum holding force of the surgical assistance system is at least 20 N, more than enough, for any known endoscope and camera system. The surgical assistance system does not need any compressed air to work but only current from the grid.
The company is seeking for professional partners for commercial agreements with technical assistance of this surgical assistance system.
Innovative Aspects:
The surgical assistance system
1. is maintenance free.
2. needs only 20ms to fix the position of the Endoscope in any position.
3. enables a stable view of the situs.
4. works with any endoscope and camera.
5. is a single hand operation system.
For the surgical assistance system a navigation tool is in development.
Give the main economic advantages / benefits of the technology.
- Less costs for working staff in the operation theatre.
- The systems are easy to apply.
- Improving working conditions for the staff in the operation theatre.
- Better viewing and stable view for the surgeon, therefore benefits for the patients.
