Intelligent mobile contact illuminator for photodynamic therapy of surface tumours (09 HR 89GJ 3DJ4)
A Croatian technology transfer company is offering intelligent mobile illuminator for photodynamic therapy of surface tumours. The device and method used solve the technical problem of optimal illumination in relation to tissue status and real concentration of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX). The company is looking for a licensing partner or a partner for further joint development in all Enterprise Europe Network countries.
Country: Croatia Type: OFFER Date: 23.09.2010
This innovative illuminating device for photodynamic therapy of surface malignant and non-malignant tumours with 5-aminovulin acid (5-ALA) of activated protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) measures PpIX concentration in the tissue and according to the measurement automatically optimizes the therapeutic regime of photodynamic illumination. This illuminator achieves an optimal illumination regime for photodynamic therapy.

Innovative Aspects:
Photodynamic diagnostics (PDD) is a diagnostic method that discovers tumour tissue by applying a combination of light and a photo-sensitive chemical.

Photodynamic therapy is based on the effect of the concentration of the photo-sensitive compound in tumour cells, and the effect of light on the photo-sensitive compound. The photo-sensitive compound reacts on light so as to produce oxygen radicals that degrade tumour cells and macromolecules in cells. The result is cell decay whether by process of apoptosis or necrosis. The device uses the light of many diodes which achieves optimal wave length and intensity of light that activates the photo-sensitive compound.
