Cast polymethylmethacrylate with high brightness to be cut with laser (10 ES 25E2 3I4L)
A Catalan (Spanish) company working in the materials technology sector is seeking a new technology to obtain cast polymethylmethacrylate with high brightness that can be cut with laser, with the aim of obtaining a glossy cut, flawless. The company is looking for polymer industrial partners interested in a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Country: Spain Type: REQUEST Date: 27.07.2010
The partner sought must have expertise in the mechanisms by which a laser cut a polymer and the factors which may influence as molecular structures, end groups, residual monomer, molecular size, etc. The partner sought should have as well the ability to cut with laser to speed up trials.

In the market several companies are producing cast acrylic sheets and each one has a different behaviour. A possible starting point for the research could be the analysis of the relationship between the molecular composition and the laser cutting quality on different materials.

Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The partner sought should compare different methacrylates and find out which differential factors improve the laser cutting properties of the material.

Degree of development:
Patents/Rights:
Requested Cooperation: Technical consultancy, Joint further development
- Type of partner sought: industrial partner, technical consultant.

- Specific area of activity of the partner: polymer analysis and knowledge about laser cutting mechanisms in polymers.

- Task to be performed: compare different methacrylates and find out which ones improve laser cutting, in order to develop together a formulation or process to produce the polymer with better laser cutting properties.
Type of Organisation:
Status: NEW
