A Scottish SME is currently developing a simple to use web-based scientific inventory/sample management system as an extension of its existing electronic lab notebook solution.

Currently in the early stage of product design, the developers have a full description of the proposed product which they will discuss with partners.

The solution will support the storage of samples inside boxes, inside shelves and inside freezers. All of these components can be customised on the system to a lesser or greater degree. The solution will have search capabilities and support a system of events that can be considered like a basic workflow system.

Main features and functionality include:

Dashboard - showing box and freezer locations and offering different views of data (samples, records or both).

Search - users can specify sample specific searches so that you only return samples and/or dynamic containers.

Reporting -simple set of filters and searches that generate tabular or graph based data that then can be copy pasted out in a variety of ways.

The inventory/sample management system will be closely integrated with, and an integral part of, the existing electronic lab notebook solution, enabling users to manage inventory data in the same framework as they manage experimental and other lab data.

Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
A full set of materials overviewing the inventory/sample management system has been established. Testers will have access to this and will be encouraged to provide comments. The Scottish company would also like them to assist in testing alpha and beta versions of the product as it becomes available.
