Novel Drug Treatment Rapidly and Safely Clearing Psoriasis Lesions (10 TR 99PB 3IEX)
A company based in Turkey is offering a patent-protected drug treatment for psoriasis for partnership to bring the treatment to regulatory approval and to the market (patients). Phase II clinical investigations have shown an unprecedented therapeutic efficacy providing rapid clearance of psoriasis lesions in less than a week with advantageous safety. Joint venture, technical cooperation and other business agreements will be explored. Licensing is possible for certain areas.

The psoriasis treatment that has been developed is based on an improved understanding of the pathogenesis of psoriasis and of regulation of cellular differentiation. Phase II clinical investigations with men and women having various forms of psoriasis have shown a therapeutic efficacy never achieved before, including with patients having disease forms refractory to any other known treatment. Contrary to the teachings in prior art, it has been shown that a selective inhibitor of Hedgehog/Smoothened (Hh/Smo) signalling can be used to induce differentiation of the epidermal cells in psoriatic lesional skin and to clear CD4+ CD8+ lymphocytes and other inflammatory cells from lesional skin to provide rapid regression and disappearance of lesions, commonly in less than a week. As described originally and verified independently, provision of an inhibition of proliferation effect on epidermal cells by use of a selective inhibitor of Hh/Smo signalling cannot provide the described desirable therapeutic results and fails to clear psoriatic lesions.
The new treatment has shown a favourable safety profile in clinical investigations. Stem cells and progenitor cells harmed by most conventional treatments are unharmed. Patients who have been treated and followed up have shown safety of the treatment also in long term.
The common forms of psoriatic skin lesions show rapid regression already after a day of treatment and visually disappear around day 4 of treatment. This may be contrasted to the requirement of several weeks to months of treatment with other known treatments and to their incomparably lower therapeutic efficacy. Difficult-to-treat forms of disease (e.g. chronic plaques failing to clear by other means, nail disease, palmoplantar disease) have also been shown to respond rapidly and have been successfully treated in all cases so far.
Innovative Aspects:
* Rational treatment directed to the basic underlying pathological process.
* Unprecedented therapeutic efficacy in phase II clinical investigations producing complete disappearance of psoriasis lesions typically in less than a week. An advantageous safety profile.
* Effective for all forms of psoriasis.
* Topical and other routes of medicament administration possible.
* Advantageous also in treatments of other skin disorders showing inhibition of differentiation of epidermal cells.
* Proof-of-concept of being effective in psoriatic joint disease.
* Patents received and pending worldwide. Advantageous freedom-of-operation for the patented technology.
