Trans-urocanic acid an API (Active Pharmaceutial Ingredient) intermediate for production of cis-urocanic acid (10 EE 21B9 3GDD)
An innovative contract research company from Estonia has developed a method for producing urocanic acid (CAS: 3465-72-3) and is looking for partners in the drug discovery and pharma sector. The method can be used to produce the given product in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) or non-GMP. The SME is lookig for partners interested in using the novel method for producing zoledronic acid.

Trans-urocanic acid (E-UCA) is a natural compound which is formed in the skin from histidine. E-UCA can be isomerized into cis-urocanic acid by sunlight. E-UCA acts as a UV-blocker and has been suggested to be an anti-proliferative agent in cancer treatment.
The production technology is made more cost efficient due to the use of inexpensive natural compounds. Thanks to the successfully optimized process the purification is robust and very simple, which saves time and cost during the process.
Innovative Aspects:
The company is able to produce trans-urocanic acid in 1kg scale with a purity exceeding 98%. Thanks to the existing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certificate a high level of process and product quality can be granted.
