The application developed by a Maltese SME connects to any accounting package through standard JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) or ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) drivers to compile client-specific documents using standard SQL (simple query language) commands. These documents can have plain text or stylish HTML (hypertext markup language) formats. They are distributed via email to their respective email addresses on record in the accounting package. Clients who do not have an email address can have their documents faxed to their fax number retrieved from the accounting package as well. On a normal PC configuration and an ADSL (analogue/digital subscriber line) connection this application can email about 100 documents per minute. This first release of this application implements debtor statements.

- Accounting database system independence
It can get its information to compile personalised documents such as debtor statements from virtually any accounting system. Presently it can connect to a BIS (Bank for International Settlements) accounting package and the widely used SAGE (System Advisory Group Enterprises) packages. Other packages can be configured upon request. In a future release, the user may configure this application to work with his or her accounting package.
- Self-Service Installation
Through the very latest Java technology, the user is given the opportunity to install this application over the Internet in two easy steps requiring minimum intervention.
- Automatic updates
Using Java Web Start, a check for the latest version is effected over the Internet every time this application is launched. Any updates are automatically downloaded, requiring no user intervention. This ensures that the user is always running the latest version of the application.

This application is written in 100% pure Java. This enables it to run on any operating system supporting the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) including Windows 98/2000/XP/CE, Linux, Unix and Sun Solaris.
