Unique Vehicle Collision Avoidance System (10 GB 77dz 3GS4)
A UK based R&D Company has developed a vehicle collision warning system. The advantages with this system over existing radar systems are; accuracy of detection; bandwidth compliance and cost. They offer the opportunity to licence or participate in further joint development of the system.
Country: United Kingdom Type: OFFER Date: 09.02.2011
The system determines the safe braking distances between vehicles by processing visual information. This system would provide drivers of vehicles with warnings when they were too close to the vehicle in front for the speed they were travelling. In addition it could give blind spot warnings, lane departure warnings; and could also be integrated with existing adaptive cruise control systems. This project has experts in the field of automotive engineering; software engineering and market research.

Innovative Aspects:
This concept is an innovative method for measuring the safe braking distance between moving vehicles, using text recognition software that will seek and lock onto the only standard sized object on a vehicle; the number plate. Being an optical system it also has advantages over expensive radar systems with respect to accuracy of detection; bandwidth compliance and cost.

The major issue previously preventing the development of a satisfactory solution in the technology area that the company operates is the fact that vehicles are not of a standard shape or size, meaning that any developed system does not have a standardised target' to search for and lock on to. Radar based systems suffer from high rates of false returns, or ghost images, meaning that systems have difficulty detecting stationary vehicles, a major short coming for collision avoidance.

Degree of development:
Patents/Rights: Patent(s) applied for but not yet granted
Requested Cooperation: License Agreement, Assembly, Joint further development, Financial Resources
The company is seeking a development partner with a view to assisting in the process of prototype development; or an investor to provide funding that would allow them to produce a finished product.
