A small UK chemicals company has recently developed a range of novel formulations for paint and varnish removers, wipes and cleaning products which avoids the need for methylene chloride and similar aggressive solvent systems. Partners are sought to licence the product and for further technical collaboration. The basis for co-operation will be manufacturing, packing and distribution locally under license from the UK developer.

The new formulations arise from many years work by the developers who have specialised in "alternative" solvent systems.
The novel solvent systems are non-toxic, non-corrosive and biodegrade such that the formulations conform to the EC Cosmetics Directive.
In contrast with most alternatives to methylene chloride the new solvent system does not have volatiles which attack users' lungs; will not cause burns splashed on skin; and can be safely disposed of through domestic waste water systems.
Innovative Aspects:
The use of methylene chloride in consumer (and industrial) products will be made illegal by the end of 2010 and so the opportunity was identified to develop a non-aggressive solvent system to replace it..
