Mainframe Applications Reengineering (10 IL 80ER 3HAZ)
An Israeli SME has developed a technology that provides mainframe-based enterprises with solutions for renewal and modernization of legacy systems, with specialization in Natural/Adabas environments. The technology provides one expert tool set for legacy software assessment, migration and modernization - in the most coherent, rapid manner, and at minimal risk. The SME is looking for partnership with System Integrators worldwide, in particular to focus on Software AG systems modernization.

Customers need to modernize their legacy applications and preserve their investments in these applications.
The company, specializing in field-proven and automated Legacy Modernization of Mainframe Applications in the NATURAL/ADABAS arena, offers to the market an innovative tool to assist Mainframe customers to modernize their legacy applications.
Through the company's advanced technology and field-proven methodology, an end-to-end solution is provided for modernizing the customer's Natural-Cobol/Adabas systems with minimal risk and maximum integrity.
The technology competencies fully serve to decommission of the Software AG platform, and they include:
- Adabas and IMS to RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) Design and Data Migration (to DB2 or Oracle)
- Natural to Cobol and / or Java code generation
- Cobol/Adabas to Cobol/DB2 conversion
- JCL/PROCS Modification
- Refresh mechanism
- Co-existence for multi-phase migration implementation

Database Design The technology automatically designs a relational data model, building a normalized RDBMS data model which can be easily fine-tuned by the client's application manager and designers. The solution's knowledgebase algorithms, in combination with the many parameters that tightly control the migration task, guarantee an accurate, efficient and high performance RDBMS data model.
Data Migration The technology automatically produces the Data Definition Language (DDLs) for the creation of the RDBMS tables and generates the programs, which let Adabas and IMS data migrate to RDBMS tables. The process applies customer naming conventions for RDBMS table and column names, and can include customer-defined integrity checks and data cleansing, that ensure a totally accurate migration of the data.
Natural to Java / Cobol conversion The technology provides for the automated and rapid reengineering of Natural to Cobol and/or Java, producing a 3-layer architecture that separates the three main functions of the application program into three distinct generic layers Presentation, Business Logic and Data access layers. Secondly, the reengineering process fully preserves the existing Natural business logic and UI (user interface) workflows in the generated Cobol - Java application.
Cobol/Adabas to Cobol/DB2 conversion For Cobol programs that access Adabas through a pre-compiler (Adabas Native SQL) the technology separates the business logic and data access layers, generates a Data Access Layer (DAL) for RDBMS access, providing a more efficient maintenance and continued database evolution.
JCL/PROCS Modification the technology enables the automated JCL and PROC modification in a one pass operation.
Refresh Mechanism The technology enables the automated "refreshing" of the new system, incorporating changes made to the original Natural programs after project start. Therefore, maintenance work can continue on the original system simultaneously to the reengineering activities. Only a short "freeze" period is required for carrying out the refresh before code delivery.
Co-existence for multi-phase implementation - when the migration project is conducted in multiple implementation phases, not yet migrated Natural/Adabas applications and migrated Java Cobol/RDBMS applications, will operate concurrently. To support interdependencies that may exist between the not yet migrated applications and the new applications the company designed and developed interim technologies that allows co-existence between converted and non-converted code and migrated and non-migrated data.

The process is done automatically by the technology including the following phases: assessment, database design and data migration, and application reengineering.

For 10 years the Israeli company has been a leading provider of software solutions, complemented by unsurpassed automation tools and professional expertise that address the evolving needs of Mainframe clients.

Innovative Aspects:
Innovative software has the following advantages:
1) Reduction of Cost of Ownership.
2) The customer is no longer dependent on the vendor Software AG.
3) Implementation of standard and open technologies (versus Software AG technology).
4) Automatic separation of mainframe applications into 3-tier architecture.
5) Cost efficiency (in relation to other alternatives currently on the market).
